Division 2 Intermediate League
Blustery conditions in Gurteen set the scene for what was expected to be a very tight game last Sunday evening April 22nd between St. Joseph’s Doora Barefield and Feakle/Killanena in round 4 of the seasons Intermediate League.
With our home team playing against a strong wind in the first half it was Feakle/Killanena to register the first scores of the game with a hand pass goal followed by a point from a free.
St. Joseph’s hit back with points from full forward Louise Woods, 2 from center forward Sarah Hoey and a well placed free from wing forward Aisling McMahon before Woods soloed through and rattled the oppositions goal net! The East Clare amalgamation replied with a point from play to leave the half time score Doora/Barefield 1-4 Feakle/Killanena 1-2.
With only 2 points between them the second half proved a quieter game as the wind dominated the sliotar. Trojan work from defenders, midfielders through to the forward line saw Feakle/Killanena scoring only a single point in the 30 minutes again from a free while the home team matched with a free from corner forward Erinn Hennessy followed by another point from their captain Sarah Hoey to leave St. Joseph’s the clear winners on a scoreline of 1-6 to 1-3.
