Round One – Junior Championship

Glorious sunshine and beautiful East Clare scenery set the backdrop for what was to be a very positive outcome for this special Junior B Panel as play got underway in Ogonnelloe on Saturday August 25th last.

Playing a 13 aside championship, Scarriff-Ogonnelloe could only manage 12 girls on the evening so St. Joseph’s respectfully matched numbers.

Joseph’s dominated this game from the throw-in and scored 1-6 in the first half to a mere 1 point from Scarriff-Ogonnelloe.

A goal from Kiera McGrath as well as points from Amy Lenihan, Ciara Whelan and Aoife Shannen placed the maroon and white girls firmly in front at half time.

The second half was a repeat of the first with Scarriff-Ogonnelloe trying hard to fight the strong Doora Barefield defense of Orla Hoey, Emer Hanrahan, Ellen Meaney (Captain), Naoise Slattery and Sarah O’Brien but in vain.

Aisling Reidy ran riot in midfield claiming all high puck outs from her goalie Ann Marie McGann and laying off to agile forwards Aoife Shannen, Amy Lenihan, Karen O’Brien, Kiera McGrath and Ciara Whelan.

Two more points from Lenihan as well as another one from Whelan and one more from substitute Mūirne Nī Chonaill, ensured St. Joseph’s were taking this game home with them.  Alannah Meaney swept up any sliotar that dared make it’s way to her in centre back and Leanne Meaney and Ann Foudy played vital roles pressurising the Scarriff-Ogonnelloe goalie.

All in all a wonderful start for Junior club camogie.
