U14 Feile Report 2016

St. Joseph’s Doora Barefield Girls travelled to the GAA Centre of Excellence Campus in Abbotstown Dublin on Saturday morning last decked out in their fabulous Féile gear to take on the runners up from Kilkenny & Galway in the first round. This being the very first time the club qualified for any Féile event brought great pride to the parish & the Camogie club & just getting to Dublin was a massive achievement for these girls!

First up St. Brigid’s Cats, and being strong hurling county our girls were expecting a tough game! And tough it was! Despite starting the game with an early goal from midfielder Alannah Meaney the Kilkenny girls slipped into gear & blasted home goal after goal despite the galant efforts of goalie Caoilfhionn Ní Chonaill.  Alannah tipped over a point in the second half again but that was alas all the scores the maroon & white girls could put away in this one. Beaten by a better team on the day without doubt.
Final score St Bridget’s 3-5 St. Joseph’s 1-1

Next up was Carnmore of Galway. Needing a win in this game put fierce pressure on the St. Joseph girls but once again the pressure was on our defence straight from the throw in! Great work from Alannah Meaney & Saidhbh O’Brien at midfield just wasn’t enough against this physical Galway team. Goalie, defenders, midfielders & forwards played their hearts out but Carnmore piled on the scores attacking our defence line to finish up on a score line of Carnmore 4-7 St Joseph’s 0-2

Unfortunately this brought the curtain down on the days events for the Banner women with Ballinora from Cork emerging as ultimate winners bringing The Downey Cup home to Lee side! There is no doubt our Barefield girls will be hot contesters again in 2017…..

Great credit due to this wonderful panel of girls, the commitment, energy & enthusiasm shown at training & matches through out the season has been immense & credit has to go to parents for the role they all play especially in the girls wonderful mannerism! Mentors extremely proud of these wonderful girls…. And many thanks to sponsors, fundraisers, club chairperson Siobhán Hoey, secretary Colette Bohannon & all the parents & girls themselves who made this prestigious event a very memorable occasion!
