Under 14 Footballer’s through to Final

St. Joseph’s Doora-Barefield booked their place in the Division 1 County Football Final this evening after defeating The Banner in Gurteen. Goals proved vital in this encounter and three goals, from Sam Cotter, Tony Butler, and Ethan Coughlan from the penalty spot ensured St. Joseph’s prevailed.

St. Joseph’s Doora-Barefield played very deep in the first half. The Banner registered their first score from a free. Tony Butler made a superb run from deep in his half and kicked The Parish’s first point. Sam Cotter finished a goal chance well as he found the top corner of the Banner net from close range . Tony Butler soon added a second goal after a powerful punt kick found the top of the net as he ran directly at the Banner ‘s defence. Ethan Coughlan superbly finished a penalty to the bottom left hand corner of the net. The Banner however outscored the home side 7 scores to five in the first half thanks to superb points from their corner forward.

At half time, the scoreline read St. Joseph’s Doora-Barefield 3-02 Banner 0-07.

The Banner started the second half really well winning the throw in cleanly. The Banner punished the Parish from frees. Joseph Rafferty found himself in space and took a very important point for Doora Barefield. Tony Butler added another score. St. Joseph’s Doora-Barefield almost raised another green flag but the corner forward calmly took the ball around the goalkeeper and slotted over a point. In the closing stages the Banner came close to finding a goal only to be denied by great fielding from the St. Joseph’s Doora Barefield goalkeeper.
