Doora-Barefield U14 Hurlers leave it late to overcome Clooney Quin

Gurteen was the venue on a sunny Friday evening for the U14A Quarter Final clash of Doora Barefield versus Clooney Quin. The teams had played just a week before in the qualifying section and Clooney Quin had finished up as 12 point winners on that occasion.

Playing against the breeze in the first half, Doora Barefield battled hard but were down by 4 points at the break on a scoreline of Clooney Quin 0-7 to Doora Barefield 0-3. It was a tight affair all the way through the second half with the Cooney Quin fluctuating between 4 point to 1 point at different stages. Doora Barefield could not seem to be able to just get on par without Clooney Quin pushing ahead to keep on top. However, Doora Barefield’s resilience and battling spirit kept them in the match and with one minute to go, they scored a great goal to go one point up. The last minute and extra time was very tense with the Doora Barefield boys defending admirably to win out by the minimum margin of one point on a final scoreline of Doora Barefield 2-7 to Clooney Quin’s 0-12. The two teams put in a huge effort and did themselves proud but only one team can go through to the semi-final and Doora Barefield will face the top team from the qualifiers, Sixmilebridge. This will take place on Friday 9th at 7pm in the Bridge.
