Under 13’s crowned Shield Champions

On Sunday 2nd of October St. Joseph’s Doora-Barefield faced Ballyea in the BNOG Under 13 Shield Final. This final was a repeat of a closely contested league match earlier in the season which, St.Joseph’s held on to win by two points.

With ideal weather conditions, the two sides squared off at the Eire Og grounds in Ennis. The concession of an early goal from a well taken St.Joseph’s free set the tone for the first half encounter with St.Joseph’s dominating possession and they took a 2:2 to 0:3 lead into to half time.

But as expected from a team like Ballyea, they came out fighting right from the start of the second half and after an exchange of points from both sides, a Ballyea goal forced St. Joseph’s to dig deep to push for victory. With the breeze and the slope of the pitch in Ballyea’s favour this Parish team had to use all its reserves to finish this match out. With a final score of 5:4 to 1:9 St. Joseph’s claimed this title for the third year in a row. We all know the phrase “Goals win matches” but in this instance great credit must be given to the Goal Keeper and his full back line for conceding only 1 goal in 60 minutes of play.

Congratulations to the panel of players, their parents and mentors.
